NFL Week 1
The 2021 NFL season officially begins on Thursday, September
5th, when Drew Brees and the Saints travel to Lucas Oil Stadium for a battle
with Andrew Luck and the Colts. Each week will consist of 17 games on Sunday,
10 games on Monday night, and 4 Thursday night games throughout November.
Sunday's games will conclude each week from 1 p.m. ET until 4 p.m., with Monday
Night Football airing from 8:15 p.m. ET. In addition, there are three Saturday
matchups in Week 2, including the Jets hosting the Dolphins at 1 p.m. ET,
followed by a tilt between Joe Flacco and Baker Mayfield at 4:05 p.m., and
wrapping up with Jared Goff vs Philip Rivers at 7:25 pm ET . If you're looking
for some more marquee matchups, head over to NBC this Thursday evening where
Carson Wentz faces off against Jameis Winston at 8:20 p.m. before concluding
the night with Matthew Stafford taking on Tom Brady in one of four primetime
games next week.
Playoffs Schedule
The NFL playoffs will kick off on Saturday, Jan. 5 and end
on Sunday, Feb. 3. The top 12 teams qualify for postseason play with the top 2
of those matchups being rematches from last year's playoffs between the Chiefs
and Patriots, followed by Rams and Saints. From there, winners from each
matchup go head-to-head through to Super Bowl LVI at this time still scheduled
for Feb. 4 in Atlanta at Mercedes-Benz Stadium home of NFL Falcons & MLS
Atlanta United FC. It'll be a rematch of Super Bowl 53 featuring Patriots vs.
Rams (from Los Angeles) or Saints (from New Orleans). It would be their first
meeting since 2000 when the New England Patriots beat St. Louis 16-13. When
these two met again during the 2002 season, it was back in St. Louis and the
Rams defeated them 27-24 thanks to quarterback Kurt Warner and running back
Marshall Faulk. Now we can't wait to see what will happen come February 2020!
Championship Game
The Championship Game will be played at NRG Stadium in
Houston on February 5, 2023. It will be televised nationally on CBS, so set
your DVRs and get ready for two powerhouse teams! I know it's hard to believe
that we're just one season away from kickoff but with every week, it becomes
more and more real.
The 2019 NFL season is finally here! Fans are anxious to see
their favorite players play another game of football on Sundays. They are also
anxiously awaiting NFL playoff games to determine who will be playing in the
Super Bowl next year. There have been many changes made since last year's
championship game and some may take time getting used to, such as the new
overtime rules or how plays can now be challenged by coaches. Will these new
changes affect how this year’s NFL season plays out? We'll have to wait until
November 3rd to find out!
NFL Ground rules
The NFL season is upon us, and you can expect some exciting
NFL games this year. But what about 2022? Well, let's look at a few guidelines
for the future of American football.
## Ground rules
1) How many games in an NFL season? The league has
contracted from 16 regular-season games down to 14 since 1940 due to World War
II, with 18 being the standard length from 1946 until 1986. At 12 games per
team, that means there are 168 total game each NFL season. With only 32 teams
in the NFL (each team plays one other team twice), that means every team will
play six home games and six away games during the course of an NFL season.
2) What days do NFL games usually take place on? NFL games
happen on Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Each NFL game begins at
either 1 p.m., 4 p.m., 8 p.m., or sometimes 10 p.m. 3) When does the NFL season
end? The NFL regular season runs from September through December and is
followed by the playoffs. The Super Bowl typically takes place in February, but
it’s not uncommon for it to be pushed back into March. 4) Who has won the most
Super Bowls? Surprisingly enough, Tom Brady of the New England Patriots leads
all quarterbacks with seven wins. That’s more than Joe Montana (4) and Terry
Bradshaw (4). Other notable players include Brett Favre (3), Kurt Warner (2),
Peyton Manning (2) and Eli Manning (2). However, if he keeps up his current
pace, Brady may soon have a new rival for the title of best quarterback ever.
For example, Aaron Rodgers has two Superbowl titles under his belt. He was also
named MVP in 2011 when he led Green Bay to victory over Pittsburgh. We'll see
if he can win another championship next year!
Super Bowl LXXXVII
On Sunday, February 3rd, Super Bowl LXXXVII will be played
at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. A record 75 NFL games were aired on CBS
and NBC, more than ever before. And even though that is a lot of content to
keep up with during an NFL season, the sheer number of game that air each week
can make it hard for football fans to see everything worth watching. Here's
what you need to know about the NFL season 2022...
Hall of Fame Class of 2023
![]() |
eneede.com |
The Hall of Fame Class of 2023 will have a total of six new
inductees. Tomlinson, who has been eligible since 2008, finally gets his
chance. If a player is eligible and doesn't get inducted on their first year of
eligibility, they then need to wait five years before being able to be
considered again for enshrinement in Canton. As part of the selection process,
a vote by current Hall members (including players) must occur between four and
seven days before the date that all modern-era nominees are announced. There
are nine former players (including Tommie Harris) and three
coaches/contributors up for induction this year. The others up for
consideration include Kevin Mawae, Ty Law, John Lynch, Tony Dungy, Jason
Taylor, Richard Dent and Brian Dawkins.
Awards Section
NFL Season MVP Award
These five players will vie for this prestigious honor of
being named NFL season MVP. One of these players will have an incredible year
and make it a point to lead their team to the coveted Super Bowl title. The
winner is likely whoever has the best stats by seasons end and makes themselves
a household name. Winning the NFL season MVP award speaks volumes in regards to
potential future hall of fame candidacy. Aaron Rodgers, who was most recently
awarded the MVP trophy in 2018, was inducted into the Hall of Fame last month
as one of only four quarterbacks to ever win three league MVP awards. Other
notable names that have won multiple times include Peyton Manning (five), Tom
Brady (four), Terry Bradshaw (four), Brett Favre (three), Kurt Warner (two) and
Steve Young (two).
Indianapolis Colts
Fans of the Indianapolis Colts will have plenty of things to
be excited about with this news. The team has improved their roster by adding
two new quarterbacks, two new running backs, and a top tight end. The Colts are
now better positioned than any other AFC team to make a deep playoff run. Colts
fans should be extremely happy that they finally have some stability at
quarterback after years of speculation. With Andrew Luck inching closer to a
return, and having secured a talented backup in Jacoby Brissett, they will
likely only need one more solid starter before training camp starts.
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens are still one of the youngest NFL
teams, only competing for twenty years. They first joined in 1996 and made it
to two Super Bowls - but lost both times. This upcoming season, they’ll be
looking for their third appearance in a Super Bowl. They've had several tough
losses this year, including to Miami Dolphins (26-10) and Cincinnati Bengals
(24-23).
The Baltimore Ravens have been successful since 1996. If
you're interested in watching them compete on Sunday's check out TV channels
Fox, CBS or NBC.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles are back in the hunt. Their 2019 season was a
historic one with them ending as Super Bowl Champions. A major part of their
success was attributed to their defense and the Eagles now look to cement that
legacy with a return trip this year. With that, here is everything you need to
know about what the Eagles will be up against for NFL season 2022
The NFC has three teams returning to fight for another spot
at the top. Two of these squads—the Packers and Falcons—made it into playoffs
last year but fell short early on and fell into Wild Card rounds instead. Now
they’re looking forward to making new history by climbing all over again next
season, only further cementing their legacies before eventually retiring.
Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons is based in Atlanta, Georgia and was
founded in 1965. It is one of thirty-two teams that are a part of the National
Football League. The team's colors are red, black, and silver. Head coach of
the Falcons is Dan Quinn who has been with them since 2015. With six
championships under their belt, the Falcon's have a list of successful players.
They include receivers Julio Jones and Roddy White as well as defensive end
John Abrahams and quarterback Matt Ryan among others. The most recent
championship for the Falcons came in 2017 when they defeated New England
Patriots by three points. In 2022, they will be looking to make it back to the
Super Bowl for another chance at winning it all.
Cincinnati Bengals
Even though their season ended in disappointment, Cincinnati
Bengals fans can rest easy knowing they have some of the best pieces in place
for 2022. The offense ranked 11th in points per game, with quarterback Andy
Dalton having a great year (4,374 yards and 31 touchdowns) before being injured
on Christmas Eve. Fellow signal-caller Jeff Driskel could also be an intriguing
prospect for 2020. Wide receiver Tyler Boyd led the team with 95 catches for
1,050 yards and nine touchdowns last season. Tight end Tyler Eifert has been
sidelined since 2017 due to injuries but is projected as one of the top players
at his position when he returns. On defense, defensive tackle Geno Atkins was
named first-team All-Pro this past season after registering seven sacks.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers are a National Football League team
that began play in 1933 as the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Steelers have been one
of football's most successful teams, having won six Super Bowls (IX, X, XIII,
XIV, XL and XLIII), qualified for 16 AFC playoffs, with 13 AFC championship
game appearances. In 2008, they became the first franchise in NFL history to
win all three major American professional sports championships - the NHL's
Stanley Cup Finals, MLB World Series and Super Bowl.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a National Football League
(NFL) team that plays in the American Football Conference South division. They
play their home games at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. Founded in
1976, they have won one Super Bowl and four conference championships. In 2020,
Jameis Winston was signed as a starting quarterback. Following an injury during
the 2021 preseason, Winston had surgery on his throwing shoulder. Backup Ryan
Fitzpatrick led the Bucs to two victories before being replaced by Winston who
returned for Week 4 of the season against the Washington Redskins. During Week
5 against New Orleans Saints, Winston suffered another injury which ended his
season with 2188 passing yards, six touchdowns and 13 interceptions with a
career-low passer rating of 74.3 after five starts.
San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers, formerly the San Francisco
Forty-Niners, are a professional American football team based in Santa Clara,
California. The 49ers currently compete in the West Division of the National
Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). They have won
five Super Bowls and nineteen NFC Championships. During their time at
Candlestick Park, they were part of two NFL records for longest winning streak
with 21 consecutive wins and 20 consecutive home wins. They also became one of
only three teams to win five Super Bowls and the first one being from the
1980s, 1990s, 2000s or 2010s.
The Niners had it all during this period but after 1988 when
Steve Young was drafted by the team things changed for them as he was starting
quarterback from 1992-1999.
New York Giants
The New York Giants are a professional football team based
in East Rutherford, New Jersey. They compete in the National Football League
(NFL) as a member club of the league's National Football Division (NFC). The
Giants were one of five teams that joined the NFL in 1925 and their success has
since been intertwined with that of the NFL's.
Since being founded in 1925, there have been 21 head coaches
for this club; Michael Reese and Tom Coughlin are currently holding those
titles. The current regime of Eli Manning and Ben McAdoo has seen two playoff
appearances.
It is unlikely that there will be any more change in the
coaching staff until Eli Manning retires from playing football or leaves for
another position on the Giants' staff.
Miami Dolphins
Adam Gase was hired as the new Miami Dolphins head coach in
2016. In 2019, the Dolphins started off 2-0 and looked like a lock for their
first AFC East division title since 2008. But due to a series of unfortunate
events including quarterback Ryan Tannehill’s knee injury and Hurricane Irma,
the Dolphins' season ended early with a 7-9 record. Gase is now looking forward
to coaching his team in the 2022 NFL season! The Dolphins have recently signed
safety Reshad Jones to a four-year contract extension worth $57 million that
will keep him on the team until 2026. Although the Dolphins lost top receiver
Jarvis Landry to free agency, they replaced him by signing former Tampa Bay
Buccaneers wide receiver DeSean Jackson. They also traded away running back Jay
Ajayi and linebacker Kiko Alonso for draft picks before free agency opened up.
New England Patriots
The New England Patriots are a professional football team
that competes in the National Football League (NFL). The Patriots have a wealth
of talent on their roster, but they could use some help on defense. With the
exception of special teams, every level of their team needs bolstering and
support. Some of the key positions for the Pats include quarterback, offensive
tackle, wide receiver, cornerback, safety and linebacker. Adding depth at these
positions will make it easier for them to weather injury situations when they
arise next season. On defense, one of their main focuses should be adding an
edge rusher who can generate pressure off the edge against both quarterbacks
and running backs alike.
Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings are looking to return the team back to
its former glory by winning a Super Bowl. After being deprived of the play-offs
for two consecutive seasons, the Vikings have finally decided that it is time
for a change and fired their head coach Mike Zimmer. The team hired Philadelphia
Eagles assistant-offensive coordinator Norv Turner in his place. Turner hopes
to be able to continue the work done by Zimmer, and make sure that Vikings get
another shot at the Super Bowl for this upcoming season. I want to win one more
championship before I leave, said Turner, who has been coaching since 1978. He
took over as offensive coordinator in 2016 after Doug Pederson left to become
head coach of the Eagles.
Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills are a professional football team located
in the City of Buffalo, New York. They compete in the National Football League
as a member club of the American Football Conference East Division. Their games
are played at Ralph Wilson Stadium, which is also known as The Ralph. The Bills
currently have one of the longest active playoff droughts in any major
professional sports league at 17 seasons. On October 1, 2017, Sean McDermott
was fired from his head coaching position after compiling an 18-24 record over
two seasons. It has been speculated that the Bills will hire Miami Dolphins
defensive coordinator Matt Burke to replace McDermott for the 2019 season with
Jason Gonzalez as his offensive coordinator and Todd Monken as his assistant
head coach and tight ends coach.
Cleveland Browns
In 2020, the Cleveland Browns ended their infamous streak of
ineptitude by winning their first Super Bowl. The Browns franchise remains the
last team in the league not to win a single playoff game. After four
consecutive years of not qualifying for the playoffs, Cleveland looks forward
to heading back on top of the NFL next season. With stars like Denzel Ward and
Baker Mayfield leading the way, it will be hard for them to stop this Browns
train from making its triumphant return.
The Browns also are one of just five teams with two
first-round picks this year, giving them plenty of flexibility in what they can
do with those selections.
